Real-Time Relief - Disaster Relief Australia and GAP

In the wake of Cyclone Jasper in Far North Queensland, Disaster Relief Australia (DRA) deployed over 50 volunteers across remote, hard-hit communities. On the ground, they faced damaged infrastructure, flood debris, limited facilities and unreliable connectivity. Without a robust communications system, coordinating teams, tracking movements and ensuring safety and efficiency became a significant challenge.

Solution

To streamline coordination, DRA implemented Nova Systems’ Global Alerting Platform (GAP), along with the GAP Guardian mobile app and satellite-connected devices. This enabled real-time mapping of hazards, team locations, and task zones even in low-connectivity environments. Centralised task management allowed efficient assignment and tracking of volunteer jobs, while safety alerts ensured immediate communication of risks.

GAP’s offline functionality and satellite integration kept teams connected across remote areas. Real-time dashboards provided clear visibility for stakeholders, supported transparency and timely reporting to government and funding agencies. The solution significantly enhanced operational coordination, safety and responsiveness throughout the cyclone recovery effort.

Outcome

With the support of GAP, DRA efficiently coordinated personnel across flood-affected townships, reduced response times and improved safety.

The platform eliminated task duplication, ensured consistent community support and enabled transparent reporting - strengthening partner confidence and reinforcing the value of sovereign technology in building national resilience and supporting disaster recovery.
