Case Study: Electromagnetic Spectrum Management UAS Threat Minimisation

Law enforcement in Australia needed “jamming” abilities to neutralise the threat of an unmanned aerial system (UAS) to make sure the public was protected at an Australian Football League grand final.

The Background

A major event on the Australian sporting calendar, the Australian Football League (AFL) grand final has a highly congested Electromagnetic Spectrum (EMS) environment with security radios, wireless television cameras and microphones, umpire radio microphones, spectator mobile phones and wireless remote control of lighting systems.

Added to this complexity was the proximity of critical infrastructure like airports, hospitals and emergency service agencies.

What We Did

Nova Systems prepared a high-fidelity EMS engineering analysis for the law enforcement agencies so a secure plan and strategy could be developed to enable an effective reaction to any UAS threat during the AFL grand final, while minimising impact to other spectrum users.
