The Italian Guardia di Finanza acquired a fleet of new ATR-72 Maritime Patrol Aircraft from Leonardo. Equipped with the state-of-the-art mission system, these aircraft are also tasked to support Italy’s domestic civil emergencies and have to be rapidly configured to respond to a wide range of missions, including large scale aeromedical evacuation.
Nova Systems’ modular aeromedical evacuation system was selected by Leonardo to equip the fleet of ATR-72 Maritime Patrol Aircraft. Designed to be installed within minutes, the aeromedical evacuation system provides the Guardia di Finanza with the capability to convert each aircraft into a flying ambulance.
The first aircraft entered into service in December 2019 and was heavily tasked by the Italian Government during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 to transfer patients between different hospitals as the Italian hospitals became overwhelmed.
